40 Days of Summer Starts June 21

We are super excited for our 8th Annual 40 Days of Summer! We will have free activities and meals available Monday through Friday, 11 AM to 1 PM, from June 21 to August 27 for children in Thomaston and the surrounding communities. There are no income requirements or restrictions. With many thanks to a partnership with Healthy Lincoln County, these breakfasts and lunches will be tasty and nourishing and will include such items as chicken Caesar salads, turkey BLT wraps, yogurt parfaits, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, fresh fruit and locally sourced veggies and dips. If your child has a food allergy, particularly a peanut allergy, email us at library@thomastonmaine.gov so that we can inquire with our kitchen about allergy accommodations. A parent or guardian can pick up one lunch and/or breakfast per child living in their household. Participation in the activities is also not required to pick up a meal, and vice versa.

Most of the activities will be take-home projects designed for school-aged children and their families, and will continue to bring our beloved 40 Days of Summer program into their homes as we did in 2020. However, we are delighted to announce that this year we will also have outdoor yard games available during pickup every day the weather is nice enough for us to be outside! If children and their families are able to stay for a bit between 11 AM and 1 PM, games such as giant Jenga, yard Yahtzee, bean bag toss, giant Connect 4, ring toss, and more will be available on the lawn.

We are also thrilled to be welcoming back some of our wonderful presenters back this year! Joshua Sparks of Sparks Ark, a wildlife rehabilitator, will be joining us on July 30, and Chewonki Foundation will teach us about Owls of Maine on August 9! Stay tuned for more details and for more in-person activity announcements.

A tentative activity schedule will be available soon. Registration is not required, but to be added to our mailing list for updates and more information, please call us at (207) 354-2453, or email us at library@thomastonmaine.gov
