LIBRARY UPDATE

Migration to Polaris

Our library consortium, MILS, is switching to a new library circulation software called Polaris, which will provide a more user-friendly, customizable, and secure experience for you. During the transition, there will be a few temporary changes to our normal services.

Here’s what you can expect:

August 24 – August 30: Transition Week

Our old circulation software will go offline. Patrons won’t be able to access their library accounts through the online catalog to request renewals or place interlibrary loan requests or holds (these requests can be directed to the library staff at 207-354-2453 or library@thomastonmaine.gov). MaineCat interlibrary loans and the Maine Reciprocal Borrowing program will also be unavailable.

August 31: Go Live with Polaris!

Normal circulation and interlibrary lending within MILS will return. Patrons will be able to access their library accounts through our new online catalog. Please bear with us as the library staff gets accustomed to the new system! Instructions for using the new online catalog will be available in the coming days on our website. Please update any bookmarks in your browsers for our online catalog to https://mils.polarislibrary.com/polaris/.

Interlibrary loans outside of MILS may still be requested through the library staff.

September 20: MaineCat Lending Returns

Our connectivity with MaineCat will be restored and patrons will be able to request interlibrary loans from outside the MILS consortium again on mainecat.maine.edu.

Mid-December: Reciprocal Borrowing Returns

Maine InfoNet will be working diligently to get the reciprocal borrowing functionality up and running, but it may be some time. We will keep everyone posted as we learn more about the timeline for our return to the reciprocal borrowing program.
